West Berkshire Council survey on upcoming separate food waste collections service

Published: 23 March 2022

Food waste in West Berkshire is currently collected every fortnight with garden waste for those who subscribe to the service.

From autumn 2022, West Berkshire Council’s waste contractor, Veolia UK, will collect food waste on the same day as the usual recycling and rubbish collections. This is part of a new service and the contractor will use eight new purpose-built vehicles.

Most households will be provided with 23-litre kerbside caddies with lockable lids although residents who share bin stores will receive a different sized bin to share. All residents will be supplied with a 5-litre kitchen caddy for collecting food waste indoors before transferring it to the larger, outdoor kerbside caddy.

The survey seeks residents’ views on the importance of recycling food waste, and it is intended to give West Berkshire Council a better understanding of requirements.

The survey may be completed online or a hard copy may be requested from West Berkshire Council’s customer services team by calling 01635 519080. The deadline for completion is midnight on 3 May 2022, and the results will be made available within four weeks of the closing date.
