West Berkshire Council - Christmas waste collections

Published: 22 December 2022

Over the Christmas period, there will be a slight change to waste collection dates in West Berkshire.   Residents will have been informed and given the revised dates on a bin hanger, but collections are scheduled to be one day later than usual as below:

  • Bins normally collected on Monday 26 December will be collected on Tuesday 27 December
  • Bins normally collected on Tuesday 27 December will be collected on Wednesday 28 December
  • Bins normally collected on Wednesday 28 December will be collected on Thursday 29 December
  • Bins normally collected on Thursday 29 December will be collected on Friday 30 December
  • Bins normally collected on Friday 30 December will be collected on Saturday 31 December

Collection days will return to normal from Monday 2 January 2023.

Further information about waste collection and collection dates over Christmas may be found on the bin day page of West Berkshire Council’s web site.

Food waste

Food waste should be recycled using the caddy or purple wheelie bin which is collected weekly.

No amount of food waste is too small to put out.  Egg shells, vegetable peelings, tea bags, bones, leftovers and plate scrapings will all be accepted.  Please use either a compostable liner or place food waste lose in the caddy or purple bin.

Garden waste

There will be no garden waste collection service between Monday 26 December 2022 and Monday 9 January 2023.

When collections resume, three open topped bags (not hippo or tonnage bags) of garden waste, in addition to the green wheelie bin, may be left out for collection on your first scheduled date.

Waste less this Christmas

If you have a real Christmas tree and are a subscriber of the garden waste service, you can leave your tree out for collection with your green bin from Monday 9 January until Friday 3 February 2023.  All lights must be removed and trees over four feet tall must be cut in half.

Anyone who does not subscribe to the garden waste collection service can take their real Christmas tree to a household waste recycling centre. Please note that you will need to book an appointment online.

Further information and ideas on reducing, reusing and recycling over Christmas are available on West Berkshire Council’s web site.
