Learn to cycle this summer

Published: 27 June 2023

West Berkshire Council is working with Bikeability, the government’s national cycle training programme, to run summer courses to help people of all abilities build confidence and increase their cycling skills. Each course lasts two hours and is delivered by DBS-checked instructors, who are trained to the standards delivered by Bikeability.

There are some specific courses, such as Adult cycle training, Family cycle training and Adult confidence courses - and ladies’ only courses with an all-female group or female instructor are available on request.

The courses are open to anyone with a cycle helmet and a correctly-sized bike which is good condition with two working brakes. They will be held at several locations around the district, including:

  • Cotswold Leisure Centre, Tilehurst RG31 6SL
  • Linear Park, Calcot RG31 7AW
  • Kennet Leisure Centre, Thatcham RG19 4LJ
  • Shaw House, Newbury RG14 2DR

Anyone interested in joining one of the summer cycling courses, should complete the expression of interest form.
