Badgers Hill achieves Quality in Careers Standard

Published: 24 January 2024

Integration @ Badgers Hill in Calcot is an iCollege for young people unable to access mainstream education. It reopened in September 2023 after a £2.2 million project to replace the old single-storey modular unit with a purpose-built two-storey building, and it has now been awarded the national Quality in Careers Standard.

The award is the single national quality award for careers education, information, advice and guidance in secondary and special schools, colleges and work-based learning.

Achieving the standard reflects that the head teacher, governors and leadership team embrace, promote and endorse quality careers education, and recognise the part it plays in the overall success of the school and its learners.

There is a statutory duty to "secure independent careers guidance" for all learners from year 8 onwards but, although the government recommends that all schools work towards the standard, it is not mandatory.  It is the choice of the school to work beyond the minimum standards and also to hold itself up for independent scrutiny.
