How to check eligibility for Pension Credit
Published: 10 October 2024
Pension Credit gives extra money to help with living costs if to those over State Pension age and on a low income. It may give extra help to people if they are a carer, severely disabled, or responsible for a child or young person, and can also help with housing costs such as ground rent or service charges. It is separate from the State Pension and is worth, on average, over £3,900 per year.
It is estimated that around 600 pensioners in West Berkshire have not yet claimed pension credit or applied to see if they’re eligible.
Anyone aged 66 years or over can use the government’s “Can I claim Pension Credit?” checker to apply for it and for extra support such as the Winter Fuel Payment.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will be sending letters to pensioner households inviting them to claim if they are eligible. The closing date is Saturday 21 December, but it is recommended that applications are made as soon as possible.
Anyone who needs applying should contact Citizens Advice West Berkshire by calling 01635 516605.
