Carebus Community Transport

Published: 26 November 2024

Carebus Community Transport was founded over 40 years ago and offers a transport service for elderly, disabled, isolated
and vulnerable people in the eastern parishes of West Berkshire. Principle areas with one or more Carebus service include
Calcot, Fords Farm, Holybrook, Tilehurst, Theale, Aldworth, Ashampstead, Basildon, Beenham, Bradfield, Bucklebury,
Chapel Row, Englefield, Pangbourne, Purley on Thames, Stanford Dingley, Streatley, Tidmarsh with Sulham,
Tutts Clump, Woolhampton and Yattendon.

Volunteers driving a Carebus wheelchair-accessible car or a private car help individuals travel for medical care, therapy, shopping family visits, and other leisure activities where other forms of transport are not available or not affordable.

Carebus also has two volunteer-driven minibuses which provide affordable transport for a wide range of community, social, or family groups throughout the area. The vehicles are equipped with wheelchair lifts, and each can accommodate up to 12 passengers.

All volunteer drivers are DBS checked and give their time for free. Full insurance cover is in place, and the Carebus vehicles can safely accommodate those who need to travel in their own wheelchairs rather than a standard seat.

A contribution to help cover fuel and running costs is requested, currently as below. Mileage is from/to the depot near Theale.

  • Minibuses – £1.00 per mile
  • Accessible cars – 70p per mile
  • Private car – 60p per mile

Further information may be found on the Carebus web site, where there is more detail about seat layouts and accessibility options for the minibuses, as well as an enquiry form (on the Book a Trip tab). Alternatively, please e-mail info@carebus.org or call 0118 930 4837.
