West Berkshire Countryside Society (WBCS) promotes the understanding, appreciation and conservation of the West Berkshire countryside by residents, visitors, groups and businesses.
The main aim of the volunteering programme is to help conserve and enhance the countryside, from Lambourn to Tilehurst. This ties in with the wider Berkshire Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS), which is being developed with a view to implementation in 2025 – it will be going to public consultation from Monday 17 February to Monday 24 March.
WBCS volunteer work parties operate on Tuesdays throughout the year. Tasks include woodland and common management, coppicing, hedge-laying and hedge/tree planting.
There are many benefits to be gained from volunteering in the countryside, including:
Health – regular physical exercise is recognised as being beneficial both physically and mentally
Social – meeting and spending productive, active time with others
