New lifts at Tilehurst station
Published: 12 February 2025
Network Rail has given an update on the project to install three new lifts at Tilehurst station to give step-free access to each platform.
The lifts were intended to be opened to passengers during the winter but the work is going to take more time as the local electricity supply needs to be upgraded to provide enough energy to run the lifts. Network Rail is working with the power supplier to agree a schedule for the upgrade.
In the meantime, the lifts are being fitted out, drainage is being installed, and a new walkway is being built from the car park to platform one. The lifts will be tested using temporary generators (although these are not suitable for day-to-day running), and this stage of the project should be completed by the end of February.
