Pumpkins are packed with goodness as they are rich in fibre and vitamins A, C, and E and every part, from the seeds to the skin, can be reused. Roast the seeds for a crunchy snack, brew up a spook-tacular soup, or bake a sweet treat using the flesh. Hubbub’s pumpkin recipe book is full of creative ideas to help you make the most of your spooky squash.
While it might seem harmless to leave pumpkins to rot in woods or gardens, they can pose a risk to animals like hedgehogs, who may eat them and become ill. Just chop it up and pop it in your food waste caddy, where it’ll be turned into nutrient-rich soil conditioner.
Storage tip: To keep whole pumpkins fresher for longer, store them upside down in a cool, dry, dark place (10–15°C) with good air circulation. Avoid stacking or letting them touch to help prevent rot.
