Expansion of Westwood Farm schools' resource centre

West Berkshire Council (WBC) is consulting on a proposal to expand West Farm schools' resource unit in Tilehurst, increasing capacity from 12 to 18 places, and extending provision to include Key Stage 2 pupils.

The reasons for this are:

• WBC has seen a 57% rise in Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) since 2020;
• There’s a need to reduce out-of-area placements;
• WBC wishes to deliver on its SEND Strategy priorities; and
• The expansion would provide continuity of learning, specialist facilities and inclusive local provision for children with complex needs

WBC staff will be at the gates of the schools where they’ll talk to parents and carers.
